Governmental authorities have shutdown media file sharing giant Megaupload last night. The music and media industry has lost close to $500 million because of the piracy on the website and simultaneous raids were carried out at 10 houses in 9 countries to arrest the websites creators and accomplices. This came only a day after websites such as Wikipedia blacked itself out in retaliation for the SOPA and PIPA acts trying to be passed by congress. The media sharing giant is amongst one of the most visited websites in the world, coming in at 14, and receiving closed to 1 billion hits a day in total with somewhat close to 600 million downloads and uploads a day. The owners of the websites will be sent to court next monday and indicted on charges of money laundering, racketeering and piracy.
